On August 13, Russian Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Livanov, Prime Minister of Tatarstan Ildar Khalikov and other officials took part in the opening of XXVIII International Olympiad in Informatics in Kazan.
According to the organizing committee, 330 people from 81 countries are taking part in the Olympiad.
International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) has been held under the auspices of UNESCO since 1989 and is one of prestigious intellectual competitions among high school students from all over the world. The Olympiad has been held in 25 countries, cinluding the USSR in 1991 and Minsk.
In Russia the Olympiad is being held for the first time. Kazan won the right to host the event in the competition with Japanese and Azerbaijan cities.
IOI in Kazan is organized by Russian Ministry of Communications and Mass Media, Tatarstan Ministry of Information and Communications, Tatarstan Ministry of Education and Science, and Kazan Federal University.
