Rustam Minnikhanov attends rehearsal of Tatarstan State Symphony Orchestra

16 August 2016, Tuesday

On August 16, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnkhanov attended a rehearsal of the Tatarstan State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Alexander Sladkovsky at the Saydashev State Great Concert Hall in Kazan.

A fragment of the Symphony No. 11 (subtitled The Year 1905) by Dmitry Shostakovich was played for the guests. Sladkovsky said that the history of Tatarstan orchestra conducted by Nathan Rachlin began with Shostakovich's Eleventh Symphony.

Besides, Minnikhanov was told that on August 2 the orchestra started recording Shostakovich’s symphonies and instrumental concertos for Melodia Records firm. This global music project is timed to mark the great composer’s 110th anniversary.

The recording is being carried out under the guidance of Mariinsky Theatre’s Sound Editor Vladimir Ryabenko.

According to Sladkovsky, to this day none of the Russian orchestras has recorded an anthology of Shostakovich’s symphonies and instrumental concertos. He continued that the Melody having chosen Tatarstan State Symphony Orchestra for this ambitious project is an honor for musicians and means that there is the orchestra able to take on the whole cycles of the scores of this level of complexity.

Minnikhanov wished orchestra musicians successful work. “I have no doubt that the recording for the "Melody" firm will be done perfectly,” he said.
