On August 26, at a board meeting of Tatneftekhiminvest-holding chaired by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, it was reported that EkoBioPreparat scientific production association located in Naberezhnye Chelny has developed a unique technology which makes it possible to launch production of ten antiviral immunoglobulin and albumin new generation biologic drugs.
Immunoglobulins are immune molecules which neutralize infections and toxins in case of emergency. Albumin is a blood protein produced by the liver, which helps to transfer some medications around the body. There is no technology to produce safe new generation biologics in Russia, therefore the market suffers from their deficit.
A total of 21 similar biological products are produced in Russia. However, potentially they are capable of transferring viruses and may contain hormones. The proposed technology involves their inactivation.
The Ekobiopreparat offers the market domestic products which are second to none. Drugs can be produced from bio-waste (for example, from blood of animals), which will provide Russia with raw materials in unlimited quantities. Foreign developments are based on the use of donated human blood.
It is supposed to build a processing plant in Saby region of Tatarstan, with the capacity of 1200 tonnes per year. Construction of mobile stations for bio-waste collection has been already started.
The Board also reviewed a number of other issues.
Moreover, a report on the preparation for the Tatarstan petrochemical forum to be held on September 7-9 was made.
