On August 31, in Moscow, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a meeting of the Presidium of the Council for Strategic Development and Priority Projects.

The meeting chaired by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev discussed environmental and health-care issues.

Speaking at the meeting Medvedev noted that one of the important achievements made in recent years was rise in birth rate, further improvement in healthcare for mothers and newborns. He continued that the situation has changed dramatically due to construction of perinatal centres. Thus, as many as 29 centres have been opened in Russia recently.

According to Medvedev, the next issue is about the qualification of doctors. "Their professional development must keep pace with the development of medical technologies. It is clear that learning is a continuous process. This requires new educational technologies, which are based on professional standards. Their introduction as well as the introduction of modern treatment guidelines should be sped up ," he said.

Another topical issue is providing people with affordable, high-quality, effective medicines in the framework of public procurement.

Speaking about ecology, Medvedev reminded that a number of important events dedicated to environmental protection are to be held in Russia next year. They, in particular, include liquidation of huge landfill sites and industrial waste dumps, careful use of water resources, as well as protection of  endangered species of animals and plants through the creation of new and development of existing conservation areas.
