On September 27, during his visit to Toronto, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met Director General of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Andrew Padmos and children’s hospital Sickkids.
Making a short presentation, Andrew Padmos told that the Royal College is a non-profit association of doctors that sets standards of education and continuous professional development for all medical professions. To get the license for doing medical practice all Canadian doctors must be certified at the Royal College.
Since 2013, this organization has carried out international accreditation of residency programmes outside Canada. A pilot residency project “internal diseases” was launched at Kazan State Medical University in accordance with standards of the Royal College in October 2015.Half a year later the university and the college signed an agreement on cooperation.
Rustam Minnikhanov and Andrew Padmos discussed prospects of further cooperation in medical education as well as exchange of students.
Minnikhanov added that about one thousand foreign students from 50 countries study at Kazan State Medical University, and cooperation with the Royal College will enhance prestige of Kazan medical school.
Later on the same day, Rustam Minnikhanov visited children’s hospital Sickkids, the world’s biggest hospital for pediatric research after Boston children’s hospital.
Today the hospital comprises dozens of specialized departments and centers. Sickkids has become the leading center in treatment of children’s diseases. Sickkids Research is the biggest institute doing pediatric research in Canada.
