On September 27, during his working visit to Toronto, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov got acquainted with the activity of Ryerson University.
The Canadian public university was founded in 1948 and is located in downtown Toronto. The university is named after a famous teacher and public figure Egerton Ryerson, who is considered the founder of state-controlled public education in Canada.
The University offers about 100 undergraduate and graduate programmes and is home to more than 38,000 students. It is one of the leading Canadian universities due to its innovative programmes.
Making a short presentation, the university staff told Minnikhanov about its history and unique educational projects developed within its walls.
Tatarstan President was also told about the DMZ university business incubator, which has been ranked the top university business incubator in North America. For 6 years about 260 start-ups have incubated at the DMZ. They have raised more than 206 million US dollars and have fostered the creation of nearly 2,500 new jobs.
Earlier, Minnikhanov had visited the Ontario Centre of Excellence. This institution was created to ensure the effective working partnership between universities, research institutes and industrial enterprises. As a result, start-ups began to show a greater effect. The centre works closely with industry and co-invest in the commercialization of innovations developed in the province funded colleges, universities and medical research institutions. The center also supports and invests in projects at an early stage if they are highly profitable and have potential for commercial success.
