On October 1, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the panel discussion “Development Institutes: in Search of an Effective Regional Model” at the Sochi International Investment Forum 2016.
One of the topics of the panel session was the work of regional development institutes. In particular, speakers talked about why not all regions are equally successful in this area.
Tatarstan being one of the most successful and fastest growing regions, including the sphere of development institutes, was given the floor.
Minnikhanov noted that the regional development institutes need support from federal authorities. He continued that thanks to support rendered by the Russian President and Government, as well as Ministry of Economic Development of Russia two special economic zones, SEZ "Alabuga" and SEZ "Innopolis", are successfully developing in Tatarstan.
The Innopolis is the Russian Centre of Information Technology. There are 21 resident companies and a university there. Another 14 companies have applied for residential status. This joint project is an example of how the federal center and the region are collaborating," Minnikhanov said.
Speaking about the training of entrepreneurs in the republic, Minnikhanov singled out the pilot project "Business Class", organized by Google together with Sberbank. It is planned to train 14,000 businessmen under this project in Tatarstan.
In addition, he noted that it is important to intensify work with young people to get them involved in science and innovation, and cited some projects being implemented in Tatarstan as an example. "We should prepare technological revolutions today," Minnikhanov concluded.
