On October 3, at their meeting at Tatarstan Government House, Acting Prime Minister of the republic Aleksey Pesoshin and a special representative of the French Foreign Ministry for relations with Russia Jean-Pierre Chevenement discussed exchange of experience in the sphere of inter-confessional cooperation.
Jean-Pierre Chevenement said that citizens from Algeria, Tunisia, and Morocco have been moving to France over the last few years. As a result, Muslims make about 8 per cent of population in the country.
“We are now speaking about teaching imams in France,” Jean-Pierre Chevenement added.
A representative of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kazan Radik Vakhitov, Tatarstan Minister of Industry and Trade Albert Karimov, honorary consul of France in Kazan Andrey Ershov, and other officials took part in the meeting.
