On October 6, speaking at Tatarstan-Latvia business forum in Riga, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan can be the region to enter the Russian market for Latvian companies.
The forum was organized by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) and Tatarstan Ministry of Industry and Trade. More than 70 Latvian small, medium-size and large enterprises took part in the forum and expressed their interest in cooperation with Tatarstan as a Russian region.
Latvian Minister of Economy Arvils Aseradens welcomed participants of the forum and told about the potential of cooperation between Latvia and Tatarstan, and Latvian economy. Latvian GDP is growing and the country’s economy is one of the most stable in EU.
According to Rustam Minnikhanov, Tatarstan is one of the leading and industrially developed regions in Russia, and the region cooperates with many foreign companies. The trade turnover between Tatarstan and Latvia made 1 bln US dollars in the previous years, he said.
Moreover, Minnikhanov reminded about Innopolis that is intended to become the top IT city in Russia.
The ambitious tasks to be fulfilled in the nearest years in the republic are the construction of high-speed railway Moscow-Kazan, development of Sviyazhsk interregional multimodal logistics center, and construction of the Western Europe-Western China Highway.
The agreement between Tatarstan and Latvian Chambers of Commerce and Industry was signed at the end of the forum.
