15 October 2016, Saturday

On October 15, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov paid a working visit to Almetyevsk, where he took part in solemn events dedicated to the production of the 100-millionth tonne of oil by small oil companies.

During his visit Minnikhanov also looked around the Kazan Cathedral, where he was told that a two-storeyed church houses the temple of the Kazan Icon of Mother of God and the temple of the Holy Myrrth-Bearers. The construction began in 2001 and was completed in 2007. In November 2007 the cathedral was consecrated by Archbishop of Kazan and Tatarstan Anastasy.

The temple complex is one of the largest in the Volga region. Its top temple alone houses more than thousand people. Apart from the church, there is a Sunday school, a refectory (for 200 people), a kitchen and utility rooms on the ground floor.

The Kazan Cathedral was built using funds of the Tatneft Oil Company.

Minnikhanov promised to comply with the religious clerics' request concerning rendering the financial assistance to complete the painting of the interior murals of the cathedral.
