Rustam Minnikhanov: “IT potential is limitless, and we will use it in our work”

President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov informed about Tatarstan experience in the “Electronic Government” systems development the meeting with representatives of federal mass media on Wednesday.

A delegation of federal mass media headed by TV-presentor Tina Kandelaki visited Kazan on February 23. Tatarstan Vice-Premier – Minister of Informatization and Communications Nikolai Nikiforov, head of the Republican Agency for the Press and Mass Communications Marat Muratov took part in the meeting, RT Pres-dent’s press-service informs.

Tina Kandelaki opened the meeting and thanked Rustam Minnikhanov for the opportunity to meet and give questions to the head of one of the most advanced Russia regions in informatization. “You are ahead of other regions and share your skills and available know-how,” the TV-host addressed Rustam Minnikhanov. “We would like to know how you managed to implement new technologies and what the results are.”

“Information technologies provide means for passing information fast, thus increasing efficiency and simplifying communication. It became a priority for us when in 2005 we made the decision on implementing IT-technologies,” Rustam Minnikhnaov said.

At present the new task of the IT-industry is to arrange offering government and municipal services electronically, RT President informed.

The President informed about the program “Electronic Education” which is realized in Tatarstan. 70 percent of the republic teachers have received personal laptops. Others will receive PCs until the end of the year.

Tina Kandelaki asked if Tatarstan supplied its solutions in the “Electronic Government” to other regions. RT Vice-Premier – Minister of Informatization and Communication Nikolai Nikiforov informed that Tatarstan software developers are already cooperating with many subjects of the Russian Federation.

Journalists also discussed the development of education in the republic with President of Tatarstan .
