23 March 2011, Wednesday
Observance of balance of interests in various economic, political and social sectors is one of key objectives in activity of heads of RF subjects. Such opinion was expressed by RT President Rustam Minnikhanov at the meeting with heads of republican mass media and representatives of correspondence offices of federal publications.

The event dedicated to anniversary of continuance of R.Minnikhanmov in office of RT President was held in House of republican government.

Opening the meeting, R.Minnikhanmov said that he often learns about life in republic from the press.

Rustam Minnikhanov noted that the first year of his presidency was not easy because of draught, icing and recovery from economic crisis. Head of republic acknowledged that he couldn’t realize everything as he wished to. “There is no place where one is taught to be a President and many things are learnt during the working process. Though I had always been close to Mintimer Sharipovich, only when I became the President myself I realized that I didn’t know many things”, - Rustam Minnikhanov said.

According to Head of republic one of key tasks for the President is observing balance of interests on various issues. “In order to manage a large region one should have wide knowledge and experience that appear over the course of time”, - R.Minnikhanmov said.

President of Tatarstan underlined importance of mass media in life of republic, including critical materials.

Journalists asked R.Minnikhanmov some questions in course of meeting. Speaking about national policy in RT the President expressed opinion regarding creation of such government body in Russia which would regulate interethnic relations. RT President considers that much work is to be done in the sphere of national policy at both federal and regional levels.

Rustam Minnikhanov emphasized the role of state in struggling with religious extremism. He noted that any religion has many trends and Islam is not an exception. By his words, Islam in Tatarstan has historically been a tolerant religion, but in 1990s a lot of young people left republic and went abroad. They gained absolutely different education and fell under influence of extremist movements.

“Surely, the state is to blame for not paying attention to this. Our task now is to maintain traditional Islam and repress manifestations of extremism”, - RT President thinks. On the other side, R.Minnikhanmov considers that the state should not be jointed to religion that results in attempts to teach religious subjects at comprehensive schools. But learning native languages at schools is extremely necessary, R.Minnikhanmov believes.

Head of republic raised other issues such as traffic jams on Kazan roads, conservation of historical buildings, support of agricultural sector and manpower policy.
