6 March 2017, Monday

On March 6, at the Tatarstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kazan), Prime Minister of the republic Ildar Khalikov had a meeting with an initiative group of affected Tatfondbank's depositors.

Khalikov shared his own vision of the situation and said that all actions that can be taken, should be taken in a lawful manner. "There will be no other actions except legal ones,” he said.

Speaking at the meeting, representatives of the initiative group proposed to set up a fund for receiving funds from large enterprises and regional budget to meet the requirements of the affected depositors of Tatfondbank and Intechbank.

According to them, the regional budget can be reviewed in terms of sporting events, image-building projects and others. As an option they suggested that Tatarstan should retire debts of Tatfondbank to pay money back to the affected depositors. "The situation is extraordinary. It is a matter of politics now, which may affect the republic's stability, both political and social. About 35,000 entrepreneurs lost their deposits in Tatfondbank,” one of the representatives of the initiative group said.

In his turn, Khalikov reiterated that the situation can be dealt with in a lawful manner only. According to him, taking funds from the regional budget or enterprises is not a legal option.
