Rustam Minnikhanov takes part in a meeting on discussing Kazan General Plan in Moscow

On March 23, in Moscow, at a working meeting with participation of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Chief Architect of Kazan Tatiana Prokofieva, Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing and Utilities of the republic Irek Faizullin the Kazan General Plan was discussed.

Earlier representatives of Tatarstan asked their Moscow colleagues to help them in further planning the region’s capital and using modern trends in urban development.

Deputy Mayor of Moscow on Urban Development Policy and Construction Marat Khusnullin told them about the Moscow's experience in city planning and regulating traffic on the city's highways.

He also shared his experience in the implementation of the programme to demolish the capital's typical five-story “khrushchevka” apartment blocks, which were massively built in the USSR from the late 1950s to the early 1980s.

During the meeting, Moscow experts proposed to determine the real boundaries of Kazan and the number of citizens living there. It is supposed that today the so-called Kazan agglomeration already attracts thousands of people from other settlements of Tatarstan. Clear statistics is needed on the number of specialists coming to the city to determine the directions, in which Kazan is to “grow”.

Besides, the meeting touched upon the issue of the implemention of the Big Kazan Project. Tatarstan President noted that such settlements as Zelenodolsk, Laishevo, Verkhneuslon region of the republic will become part of this zone in the future.

Minnikhanov gave Irek Fayzullin, Ilsur Metshin and Tatiana Prokofieva an errand to carefully analyze the suggestions made during the meeting on the development of the transport infrastructure of the capital of Tatarstan.
