On June 28, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov together with Minister of Health of the republic Adel Vafin and Chief Medical Officer of the Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary Ildar Khairullin visited the Regional Clinical Oncology Dispensary in Kazan.
The guests looked around an X-ray diagnosing unit, visited a nuclear medicine centre and got acquainted with the work of Volga region tomotherapy сentre.
Minnikhanov was told in details about the equipment of a new tomotherapy centre, which allow an effective X-ray therapy for patients suffering from malignant neoplasms with minimal radiation of surrounding tissues.
Tatarstan President was also presented a new 3 Tesla device for magnetic resonance therapy, which is the only high-field oncology scanner in Russia.
Vafin briefly told Minnikhanov about the activities of the Regional Oncology Dispensary. In particular, he reminded that the Nuclear Medicine Centre was put into operation in 2014, and that the medical diagnostic center No. 2 was opened a year later.
The Minister also reported that about 15,500 oncology patients are diagnosed in the republic annually.
