Rustam Minnikhanov: We are proud of the Tatars, living in Penza region

On July 22, during his working visit to Penza region, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the 8th All-Russia rural Sabantuy, which was held in the village of Srednyaya Elyuzan.

"A wonderful holiday has been organized in Penza region. I am very happy that my old dream came true. I have heard a lot about Srednyaya Elyuzan and today I have finally visited this village,” Minnikhanov said at the opening ceremony.

He told the gathered that a new school and kindergarten have been opened in the Tatar village today. "Now we are present at this festive venue. Sabantuy is our tradition, our pride, our most beloved holiday. This year it is celebrated in 59 regions of Russia and 32 foreign countries. The main aim of Sabantuy is to show the identity of the Tatar people. I congratulate all of you on this solemn event!" Tatarstan President added.

Then, Minnikhanov handed in state awards of the Republic of Tatarstan to residents of Penza region, who made a special contribution to preserving Tatar national traditions and strengthening inter-ethnic relations. Also, Tatarstan President handed over keys to a new minibus to Head of the local Regional Tatar national and cultural autonomy.

Sabantuy is one of the holidays that symbolizes a return to our spiritual roots, the great history of the Russian state, when different peoples of Russia lived in friendship, harmony and peace, Governor of Penza region Ivan Belozertsev, who was also present at the event, stressed.

During his meeting with journalists, Tatarstan President thanked the Governor for the high level of organization of the holiday.

“One would think that it is easier to preserve some national elements in Tatarstan. But, we have seen today that local Tatars have managed to preserve deeper things to the present day. Very hardworking, religious people live here. We are proud of the Tatars living in Penza region,” Minnikhanov said.
