On October 1, during his working visit to Japan as a member of the Russian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Arkady Dvorkovich, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov held a number of business meetings in Kyoto.
The first meeting with Executive Director of RIKEN, the Institute for Physical and Chemical Research, Shuichiro Itakura took place on the sidelines of the Science and Technology in Society Forum. The Institute conducts research in a wide range of fields including physics, chemistry, biology, medical science, engineering and computer technology. It has been a strategic partner of the Kazan Federal University since 2008.
During their meeting, Minnikhanov and Itakura discussed promising areas of cooperation between the republic and the RIKEN Institute.
I think that cooperation between the RIKEN Institute and the University of Innopolis, including joint research projects, organization of internships and other activities, is possible and promising, Minnikhanov said.
Then, Minnikhanov had a meeting with senior executives of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), an advanced research institution responsible for the implementation of science and technology policy in Japan. The priority is given to research work in such areas as green innovation, innovation in life, nanotechnology.
The meeting discussed issues related to cooperation between the University of Innopolis and the JST Agency, as well as the exchange of educational and scientific programmes. Tatarstan President invited the leadership of the Japan Science and Technology Agency to visit the republic to prepare a plan for further interaction.
After that, Minnikhanov had a meeting with representatives of the Mitsubishi Research Institute, which carries out long-term assessments of the development of society, economy, industry, strategic business consulting and IT solutions.
Moreover, the institute offers IT consulting and services to IT companies in the development of such systems as e-government, IT project management, IT solutions in aviation and traffic management, etc.
Minnikhanov expressed his confidence that the international experience of the Mitsubishi Institute will be useful for the republic. Tatarstan President invited representatives of the Institute to cooperate with the University of Innopolis and other regional universities.
Finally, at his meeting with senior managers of the Japanese Rohto Pharmaceutical Company Tatarstan President suggested considering options for organizing cooperation with the Tatkhimpharmpreparaty Pharmaceutical Company, or localizing production facilities in Tatarstan.
