Rustam Minnikhanov and Vladimir Yakunin open new railway station “Kazan-2”

The second passenger railway station on Vorovsky Street opened in Kazan on the Day of the railwayman. President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and OAO “Russian railways” President Vladimir Yakunin attended the official ceremony.
The transport interchange hub “Kazan-2” was built on the place of uncompleted construction project of a railway station that was being constructed from the middle sixties.
The new railway station complex which comprises suburban and long-distance traffic, interurban and urban bus service has been constructed within 14 months. The project’s funding has cost OAO “Russian railways” 1.1 bln roubles.
The passenger terminal which occupies the area of 7890 m² includes waiting room for 600 people, ticket hall, luggage office, registration and self-service terminals, cafes and toilets. The bus station hall is meant for 75 passengers. 11 though passenger long-distance trains and 7 suburban electric trains will pass through “Kazan-2” station. The station provides services for 520 passenger long-distance trains and 550 suburban trains.
Speaking at the ceremony, OAO “Russian railways” President Vladimir Yakunin reminded that the 175th anniversary of the Russian railways is celebrated this year.
“I congratulate you on the Day of the railwayman that also concerns everyone who uses railway transport,” Vladimir Yakunin said and handed several awards to employees of the “Russian railways” who made a great contribution to construction of the new railway station.
Rustam Minnikhanov said that he cannot imagine development of republic without proper work of the transport infrastructure. “We have ambitious plans on our further development. Being the largest cargo shipper, we must appreciate activity of the “Russian railways. We congratulate our railwaymen on the 175th anniversary of the railways and wish them to implement all plans,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
He also handed awards to builders and employees of the “Russian railways.” Then, honourable guests walked around the new railway station.
In the interview, Vladimir Yakunin told about future plans to be realized by OAO “Russian railways” in Tatarstan. Firstly, Tatarstan’s leadership offers to organize intraurban circular train service. Besides, Kazan will become the first city in Russia where new trains purchased especially for Olympic Games in Sochi will start operating.
The Tatarstan President noted that opening of the new railway station would improve the transport scheme.
“I suppose that with advent of circular traffic in Kazan and construction of inter-modal line Kazan will become the most convenient city for travelling. High-speed traffic service will make Kazan and Moscow closer to each other and change people’s standpoints,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.
On 15 December, speaking at a meeting of the competition committee of the regional public competition “The Manager of the Year” about its results in 2025, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin said that the list of 155 participants (nominees), who are heads of enterprises and organizations from various industries and sectors of the economy, for the competition was formed based on recommendations from regional ministries and departments, city and district municipalities, employers' associations and the Federation of Trade Unions of the republic.
On 6 December speaking at a regional meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the regional Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector Marat Ayzatullin reported about progress in implementation of the of multi-apartment houses capital overhaul programme.
On 5 December, congratulating volunteers with the International Volunteers Day, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Leyla Fazleeva wrote in her address: “
Your boundless kindness, sincere desire to help others and active civic position deserve special recognition and deep gratitude. There are over 5,000 volunteer associations operating successfully in Tatarstan, with a total membership of over 220,000 caring people of all ages and professions. Every year the contribution of volunteers into public life of the republic becomes more noticeable.
On 4 December Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Gafarov, who is the Chief of Staff of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic, took part in a strategic session on the establishment of an inter-university campus in the republic being held at the Kazan Aircraft University on 4-6 December with participation of more than 100 people and more than 40 experts in politics, economy, science, education and industry from all over Russia.
