The Cabinet of Ministers of Tatarstan holds a meeting on the implementation of the state programme «Energy and Resource savings in the Republic of Tatarstan» in 2021 and tasks for 2022

On April 19, at the Kazan Expo International Exhibition Centre, on the sidelines of the Tatarstan International Power Economy Forum, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin held a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic on the implementation of the state programme «Energy and Resource savings in the Republic of Tatarstan» in 2021 and tasks for 2022.

The Aide to the Russian President Igor Levitin, Russian First Deputy Minister of Economic Development Ilya Torosov, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and other officials took part in the Forum.

Deputy Prime Minister of the republic, Regional Minister of Industry and trade Albert Karimov made a keynote report and said that electricity consumption in Tatartsan reached 32 bn kilowatt/hours in 2021 giving a 10 per cent increase, which was caused by the industrial watering growth. Electricity production increased by 13 per cent up to 27bn kilowatt/hours but there is still electricity shortage in the republic. He emphasized that Tatarstan will fully provide itself with electricity in 2025.

He also informed that a substantial growth is expected in the distributed power generation the capacity of which currently is 280Mega Watt (or 3.5% of the installed power in Tatarstan) and by 2023 it will exceed 1 GW or nearly 13.9% of the installed power.

Karimov also said that the modernization of power facilities is of high priority.

Regional Minister of Industry and Trade also said that the draft state programme of the Russian Federation "Energy saving and energy efficiency for the period up to 2035" is aimed at reducing the energy intensity of GDP by 35 per cent in 2035 (to the level of 2019).

A number of reports on the development of energy system and infrastructure of the republic and the implementation of comprehensive Programmes by Tatneft Oil Company, SIBUR Holding were made.

Torosov informed about the implementation of the state energy efficiency policy in the Russian Federation. During the meeting Levitin said: “Working under sanctions is a chance to completely revise our industrial policy. According to him, today Russia needs to completely switch from imports to its own industrial production”. Companies that have created a reserve in advance will be able to make a quick transition, he said.

Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov said that results of 2021 showed the growth of the GRP power consumption by 3.7 per cent, which showed that the objective of cutting the power consumption by 40 per cent by 2020 was not reached. At the same time, the energy intensity of the republic decreased by 26.2 per cent to the level of 2007. Tatarstan President underlined that under the current conditions of unprecedented restrictions, the priority issue is the import substitution of equipment and technologies, especially in the energy sector. According to the President, it is important to analyze the necessary products to replace their own developments.

In the end of the meeting Pesoshin handed in awards to winners of competition for best achievements in energy saving.
