Rustam Minnikhanov: “Ecological problems of the city should be solved before Universiade-2013”

30 June 2009, Tuesday

Inter-departmental meeting on issues of implementing RT nature-protective legislation in realizing sewage dumping in Tatarstan rivers is being held in Kazan. RT Prime Minister R.N.Minnikhanov and Volga inter-regional nature-protective prosecutor V.A.Soldatova take part in meeting.

By words of Prime Minister target program of developing plumbing sector and water supply networks up to 2015. Its realization needs serious capital investments up to 2 bln. dollars. Though 2009 is still rather difficult we may concentrate on events which require not great financial expenses but solving organizational and technological problems.

“Not so much time is left to 2013. Republic and Kazan will receive foreign guests. Anyway appearance of our capital and republic should be estimable. Today we have many problems to be solved by common efforts, - Rustam Minnikhanov underlined”.

One of them is collection and disposal of heavy rain discharge from Kazan territory. Millions of cubic meters of these waters flow into Volga and Kazanka without clearing. According to information given by Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service the quality of water in rivers abruptly becomes worse after heavy rains in Kazan. Moreover, there are not enough heavy rain sewages in the city.

Also it is worth saying that works on improving ecological situation in region are being carried out in Tatarstan. At the expense of republican budget capital construction and reconstruction of treatment facilities is being realized. However, these funds are not always spent efficiently.
