On September 19, at the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Russia Toyohisa Kozuki.

"I hope that your visit to Kazan and Tatarstan will leave good impression on you," Minnikhanov said welcoming the Ambassador and members of the Japanese delegation, who arrived in Kazan to take part in the sixth meeting of the Russia-Japan Advisory Council on Modernization of the Russian economy.

"We lay much emphasis on the expansion of ties between Tatarstan and Japan within the framework of Russian-Japanese relations,” Minnikhanov said. “Despite the difficult political situation, relations between our countries need to stay pragmatic. This is what our leaders - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe talked about at their meeting in Vladivostok,” he continued.

Minnikhanov expressed his confidence in normalising the international political climate. According to him, business circles are waiting positive impulses from their governments.

"We are also interested in attracting Japanese capital and business and will be glad to expand our relations. We are ready to provide overall assistance," Tatarstan President said.
