UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova arrives in Kazan

On August 20, UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova, who arrived at Kazan International Airport, was met by State Counsellor of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev.

The main purpose of her trip is the presentation of the certificate about the inscription of the Dormition Cathedral and Monastery of the island town of Sviyazhsk in UNESCO World Heritage List. The solemn ceremony will be held at Piramida complex on August 21.

The decision about the inscription of Tatarstan’s third site in UNESCO World Heritage List was made at the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee in Krakow, Poland, on July 9, 2017.

UNESCO Director General will visit the Dormition Cathedral and Monastery of the island town of Sviyazhsk and inspect the reconstruction works at the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

Irina Bokova visited Tatarstan and presented the certificate about the inscription of Bolgar historical and archeological complex three years ago, on August 20, 2014.
