The Republic of Tatarstan and iCarnegie sign Memorandum of Understanding

Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Republic of Tatarstan and an IT subsidiary of Carnegie Mellon University – iCarnegie in Pittsburgh (USA, Pennsylvania). President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and Director of iCarnegie Gil Taran put their signatures on the document.
To the point, Rustam Minnikhanov is on a business trip in Pittsburgh to learn about activity of Carnegie Mellon University (September 4-5, 2012).
Rustam Minnikhanov is accompanied by Tatarstan’s Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of informatization and communications Roman Shaikhutdinov, rector of the Kazan (Volga) Federal University Ilshat Gafurov, senior partner of venture fund Runa Capital and founder of Parallels company Sergei Belousov.
An international educational center of federal significance for training 5 thousand IT specialists per year is meant to be established in Tatarstan. iCarnegie is expected to develop a world-known educational system for Tatarstan that will comprise a world-class scientific-research and educational university giving bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and a range of opportunities for professional education and training of top managers.
iCarnegie will also render services on developing academic and administrative infrastructure of the university.
During the signing procedure Rustam Minnikhanov thanked top management of Carnegie Mellon University and authorities of the Pennsylvania state for warm reception of the Tatarstan delegation. He noted that during the day he had managed to see several research and scientific centers of the university. Rustam Minnikhanov believes that it is important to see Carnegie Mellon University as a strategic partner of Tatarstan.
“Today we have signed the document that will be updated and I hope by autumn 2013 the project will have been completely launched. You make a contribution to transformation of the modern world,” Rustam Minnikhanov said, addressing officials of Carnegie Mellon University. He also noted that he hopes to see Tatarstan and Carnegie Mellon University as reliable partners.
On May 14, Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda, who arrived on a working visit in Kazan to take part in the events of the XVII International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic World: KazanForum”, was met by Prime Minister of the republic Aleksey Pesoshin and other officials at the Kazan International Airport.
On 9 May Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in a ceremony of laying flowers to the monument “The victorious soldier” dedicated to the celebrations of the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WW II) 1941-1945 and held at Arsk cemetery in Kazan.
On 8 May, speaking at a meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the Acting Chairman of the State Council of the republic Marat Akhmetov and the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Marat Ayzatullin reported that capital overhaul of social facilities is in full swing in the republic with 170 educational facilities having been included into regional and federal programmes.
On 4 May at a briefing held in the Tatarstan Government House it was told that currently there are 92 combat veterans, the last witnesses of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) of 1941-1945, living in the republic. The briefing also informed about veterans’ support measures and how the republic is planning to celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva told that names of 353 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tatarstan “ are immortalized in street names, on memorials, in monuments and squares and, of course, in our memory”. “The Victory Day is the day of memory, mourning and joy. It is the event which today should be clearly understandable to all young people and younger generation of Tatarstan,” she said.
