6 October 2016, Thursday

On October 6, during his working visit to Riga, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with executives of the AirBaltic Company.

A brief presentation about the activities of the company in the global market and steps for its further development was made for Minnikhanov.

The AirBaltic fleet consists of 24 aircrafts ("Boeing" and "Bombardier”). Employing 1130 people, the company conducts flights from three Baltic capitals - Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn. It is also cooperating with all the world's airlines. The company plans to launch new routes in an easterly direction (Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, etc.), starting from a direct flight from Riga to Kazan.

According to the company's executives, the annual passenger traffic flow between Riga and Kazan is now about 4,000 people. It is expected that with launching the direct flight passenger traffic flow will increase up to 9,000 people per year.

In his turn Minnikhanov said that he supportes this proposal and noted that Tatarstan is interested in it. "We are interested in launching the direct flight, Kazan has hosted a number of different events, including international ones, recently. This flight will be in demand," he said.
