On December 14, at Tatarstan Government House, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi.

Indonesia is one of the main Russian trade and economic partners among ASEAN countries, Tatarstan President noted. He also reminded that during his meeting in Kazan in July this year  they discussed prospects of cooperation between Indonesia and Tatarstan within the framework of Russian-Indonesian relations were discussed.

Minnikhanov invited Indonesian representatives to take part in the international economic summit Kazansummit to be held on May 18-20 next year.

"Indonesia is a country with a growing economy. Moreover, Indonesia is one the largest Muslim populated countries. Therefore, it is important to strengthen not only economic ties, but develop cooperation in such areas as culture, sports, tourism, science and religious education,” Minnikhanov said.

He went on to say that in February next year the International Trade Fair will be held in Jakarta and Tatarstan manufacturers of halal products will also take part in it.

In his turn, Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi thanked Minnikhanov for his condolences addressed to Indonesia in connection with the earthquake in one of the country's provinces.

The Ambassador reminded that this is his second visit to Tatarstan. He said that for the first time in the history an Indonesian couple will get married in the Kul Sharif Mosque in Kazan and he will witness this event.

Then, Minnikhanov and Mohamad Wahid Supriyadi discussed the current situation in terms of cooperation between Indonesia and Tatarstan. In particular, the Ambassador reminded that the Days of Indonesia will be held in Tatarstan in August next year. He also expressed his hope that direct flights between Tatarstan and Indonesia, which will help increase the flow of tourists, will be launched.

“Kazan has become more attractive for Indonesian tourists,” he said. The Ambassador continued that now Indonesian tourists visit not only Moscow and St. Petersburg, but Kazan as well.
