Board of Guardians of Rubin Football Club approves a new model of the club's work

31 May 2017, Wednesday

On May 31, in Kazan, a meeting of the Board of Guardians of the Rubin Football Club held by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, summed up the results of the season and discussed further development of the club. Minnikhanov thanked Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, who is also the president of the club, for fulfilling the tasks assigned to him as President of the Rubin Club and approved the transfer of management and financing of the club to TAIF Group of Companies.

Metshin reported on the results achieved as part of the strategy that was adopted a year ago to develop the club until 2020. During this time the sports infrastructure of the club have been brought to the modern level. In particular, the club's base was overhauled, the Kazan Arena field was reconstructed and a new field at the club's training base was built. At the initiative of fans, the club was re-branded and the total information awareness was ensured. A constructive dialogue with President of the FIFA Gianni Infantino and President of the UEFA Alexander Cheferin was built. For the first time in the club's history, commercial sponsors from federal companies such as Megafon and Armata Project (Mail.Ru Group) were involved in financing of the club.

“We attracted the well-known audit company PriceWaterhouseCoopers to ensure compliance with the rules of the financial fair play of the UEFA. One of the most difficult strategic tasks set for the club was also to find a way to move from a private-state model to a completely private one that would provide a single decision-making centre”, Metshin said. “These days Tatarstan President and TAIF Group of Companies have reached an agreement on the transfer of the Rubin Club under full funding and management of TAIF. I can only welcome this decision and in this regard I would like to cede my post to the candidate, proposed by representatives of the group of companies.”

Tatarstan President thanked Ilsur Metshin for the great work done in his post during a short period.

After the discussion, Metshin's request for resignation from the post of President of the club was satisfied. The Board of Guardians approved the decision on the financing and management of the football club by TAIF group of companies.
